OpenAI’s Hugging Face post-mortem, NVIDIA’s reported bid for the open model hub, sandboxes that don’t hold, open models closing the gap & a fund built on the agent attack surface
"Not applied in the evaluation environment" is the line I'd read out loud in a governance meeting. Every company I work with has one environment where the controls are formally exempt because it isn't production, and it's usually the one where the most capable thing is running hardest. The 100x figure turns that exemption into a number instead of a footnote. Does NVIDIA's boundary model help there, or does it break the same way once somebody declares an environment out of scope?
The sandbox question is moving past software. Anthropic's Model Hardware Standard research preview, opened 27 August, is a model-agnostic driver layer letting agents discover and operate lab and factory instruments over MCP, with each device's safety limits described in a reference file generated from natural-language tags - and in Genentech's section of that post, Claude hits a liquid-handling error and retries in the same well until a human explains the physical cause. Does the harness-versus-runtime boundary hold when the runtime is a pipette?
